Not sure how this happened, its a great problem to have but I am going to have to work extra hard to meet my deadlines this week. On my plate - an article for a magazine about a local business owner, edits on a book on social etiquette and another on education, an article on education for a new magazine I'm writing for (which I hope will bring in consistent future work), and a training conference call for a proofreading project I will be doing in a few days. I see a lot of phone calls and a lot of typing in the works. What are you working on?

I am a huge fan of Ikea - most furniture and decor products in my apartment are from there, and when I run out of ideas for brunch the cafe there is always a good choice. They do some great work with local nonprofits as well so was happy to check out one of their fundraising events for AskMissA. Read it here!
Not sure I ever shared this little piece I wrote about what school means to me for the back to school issue of one of the magazine's I edit for. Read on!
Read my latest on Buckhaven Lifestyle just out. Its about a new company called Tvachia. And they work with folks back in India which makes this article all the more special for me. Check it out here.
If yes, then I want to talk to you! I am in the process of writing a book myself and I know for a fact that it's no joke. I am trying to spotlight a few authors who have recently published work in any genre. Print or electronic is fine. The idea is to share with others your story of how you went about writing your book, your choices and decisions, publishing it, the whole nine yards. Be ready to share a lot of information so other up and coming authors can learn from your mistakes and thank you for sharing your wisdom. I am currently looking for authors from Georgia but you could be from anywhere really. Remember to send me a link to your site, and if you'd like, feel free to send me a copy of your book for a review on this site as well.
Nope, not doing it, but I am helping a client edit and proofread their book on technical writing which is turning out to be quite the eye opener. It is a great effort, lots of information written in a clear and concise manner, very interestingly explained with images and graphs and such. My client has sure put in a lot of effort so I am hoping I can do a good job with the editing part of it. Have to deliver in about 2 days so I will sign off now and focus on that :)
I love what I do - editing, proofreading, writing...and I love it even more when my clients are happy with the work I do for them. I had someone contact me to edit a book a few weeks ago. Then nothing. Then they came back and I agreed to work on it. Two weeks later, and my editing skills added to it, they were not only happy with the work, but paid me more than was agreed upon because they were really happy with my work, and now want to work with me on all their projects in the future. They were prompt with their payment, and they even gave me a shout out on social media. Its amazing word-of-mouth advertising for me. When you love what you do, and you do it well, not fabulously but just honestly and to the best of your abilities, then a moment like this can propel you for a few days. A high like this gives you motivation to go on and do what you love even more. My day have been awesome because my client liked my work and was kind enough to say good things to me and others about it. On that high note, I wish a lovely day for you as well.
December is turning out to be a busy month already. What are you working on? I have decided to make a few updates and improvements on my website here. Keep checking back and you will notice the changes. I just pitched an article idea to a new media outlet and got accepted. Deadline in two weeks - you will know when it gets published. Another magazine I write for checked in to see if I would do a review of a holiday show so that is on the cards as well. Meanwhile, a friend of mine writing a book has asked me to take charge of editing, with a second book in queue. This should be interesting as well. Hopefully, I can do for the book what previous editors did not accomplish. It does need a bit of TLC but nothing that some focus can't achieve. Here's to good work coming through and no 'idle mind is a devil's workshop' syndrome :) Resurfacing from the long weekend and focusing on some work for my website. Today was a particularly gloomy day and warranted a lot of motivation. To find my momentum, I stepped out and worked from a little indie tea place near home. I typically like working from home so if I need anything in a hurry, something to refer to, or records to look up, then I can do it right away. Also my schedule is flexible working from home - if I am waiting on something to upload or render then I can cook up some lunch in the meanwhile. But then again, there are days like today that working from home was simply not an option. All I wanted to do was cosy up on the couch and watch movies all day! So here are links to some of my favorite coffee and tea shops in Atlanta that I frequent when I want to get some real work done and staying in my home office is not going to get me any results. I try not to head to Starbucks as they are almost always way too busy. Got nothing against their offerings but getting any work done there is usually a challenge. Check out Walton Coffee on the Chattahoochee, ZenTea, Sip. Let me know what you think or if you have places I could try. |
