Ed2010 Atlanta's last speaker session for the year is today! Don't say you never knew...if you still want to make it just show up...attendance is free! RSVP here.
It's just a week away - the last Ed2010 session for the year! This time we have the editor of Atlanta Tastemaker magazine, Tiffini Gatlin speaking on a range of topics that would be fabulous to focus on for the rest of the year and have you at the top of your game for 2014. She has graciously accepted to stay on after the event for a Q&A and networking. Nibbles will be from Tin Drum and she has a great giveaway in the works as well. Check it out here and RSVP if you are a member of the Atlanta publishing and media industry or would like to find more opportunities in the print and online media world. I hope to see you there!
The Ed2010 Atlanta event I posted about was a success. Had a room full of ladies (what is it with women being writers and editors?!) at Hypepotamus mixing and mingling until Stephanie Davis Smith, our speaker arrived and took over. She was funny and interesting, and casual and approachable - everyone had a great time listening to her talk about her experiences in the journey to becoming an editor. The guys from Chuice were there for a sampling of their new chewy juice that is creating waves in the health food industry. We also had little mini cupcakes from Smallcakes Cupcakery which were yum! Overall, a great evening. Links to photos and more information on future events should be on this blog shortly. Watch out!
I am really excited about this speaker session. Our guest is Stephanie Davis Smith from the Modern Luxury Group and she is a great speaker, very funny and very informative. A few members have already been mailing in about how excited they are that she is joining us, lots of RSVPs going on at the event page on Facebook, let me know if you will make it as well!
Also mark your calendars for July 10th and October 10th - our last two speaker sessions for the year.
I think I had mentioned in an earlier post I am chapter host for Ed2010 - a national-level organization that brings together magazines editors and editor wannabes to help achieve their dream magazine industry jobs. I organized the first speaker session for the city chapter on the 9th at the Hypepotamus, a co-working space in Atlanta. Our speaker was the lovely (pictured above with me) Sue G Collins, editor of Buckhaven Lifestyle magazine, who I have the pleasure of working with currently as the proofreader for that publication, and occasional article writer as well. Sue was excited to share about her experience as an editor, about the magazine she works with, and also gave some tips pitching and approaching editors for writing assignments. The event was attended by a good group of enthusiastic writers, freelancers and students representing quite a few Atlanta area publications. There were giveaways galore thanks to Sue, and I had a few Fair Trade Federation calendars from my other business to hand out as well. There were also healthy muffins to snack on courtesy Frannie's Gluten Free. Definitely saw a lot of networking happen and business cards being exchanged. I sent out a post-event survey to see what folks thought and what their feedback was so hoping to hear some constructive criticism that I can work with. The next event is scheduled for April 10th so if you are in the area and interested in the local magazine publishing scene, you should join in on the fun. More images here.
