If you read my previous post, you would know I have been waiting for today. I decided to do a course in Freelance Writing at Emory University here in Atlanta, GA offered as part of their Evening at Emory Continuing Education classes. It is a short 6-week course, just once a week on Mondays, for about 2 hours in the evening. A great time and location for folks who work during the day. Surprisingly (or not so!) our class comprises of only females. Linda, the instructor, turned out to be a really nice lady - witty, clear about her thoughts, interactive - tried to give us a bunch of word exercises on the spot!, and has her lesson plan all prepared. She gave us a little handout of all the topics we will cover and I must say I am impressed. I can't really share everything she taught in her class here but I do promise to share something interesting with every session I attend. Today was a general introduction to the profession of freelance writing and traits and characteristics one must have to be able to pursue work in this field and survive it successfully in the long run. Based on her discussion, I would have to say I realized I fall into the category of 'feature writer/generalist' - I am telling myself that has got to be a good thing!

I acknowledge your writing and you made my curiosity rise. I agree that critical thinking is a skill, and that is not necessarily dependent on education or intelligence. It can be applied and used by anyone with an objective frame of mind.
